We were delighted to learn in January 2011 that we have been awarded a grant from Awards for All which will be used for a number of 'capacity building' activities over the next 12 months – speakers and venues for our monthly Open Meetings, publicity, attendance at conferences and workshops, membership of relevant bodies, travel costs, website maintenance, and hosting a cross-sector seminar to promote Co-Housing.
At our open meeting on 13 February we discussed (among other things) a number of possible topics for our open meetings and the Steering Group is working to arrange suitable speakers to address members’ preferences.
The group has made a great deal of progress in the last few months especially since appointing our Development Officer, Grace MacDonald, in June 2010. A possible site in East Fife has been identified and discussions are in progress with the landowner. Vivarium has contributed to a number of recent public consultations and the potential of Co-Housing as an appropriate housing / lifestyle option for older people has been acknowledged by the Scottish Government.
We gave a talk recently to the University of the Third Age in Cupar and hopefully raised a degree of interest in Vivarium and in Co-Housing in general.
We have been gradually increasing membership numbers over recent months and anyone interested in becoming a member – it only costs £15 per annum – or finding our more about Vivarium should contact either Chairman, Hugh Hoffman (
